Living in black or white when life is full of color

Have you ever given up on a diet because of one decision to have a brownie on one day?

“Well I blew it, might as well start next week”  🤦🏼‍♀️

Does that sound familiar?

It’s just not that simple. 😐 After WLS, it’s not black and white.  You are not good or bad, food is not just good or bad, there has to be some in between, some gray.

I speak with so many WLS folks who have a long history of labeling foods as good or bad and in turn labeling themselves as good or bad based on what they ate.

I know it is so hard to change old habits and ways of thinking, but getting stuck in black and white thinking does not serve you well in the long run.

As you begin to work on reversing the weight gain that happens in the years after surgery, give yourself some grace.  Leave some room for the gray so that the changes you make can be sustainable. 💚

This may look like including some fruit in your lunch, or actually eating breakfast instead of drinking a shake. The gray could be that you get physical activity 3-4 days a week and it doesn’t matter which days you do it or what that activity is.

What would it look like if you allowed a bit more gray, would life get more colorful?
